Around The NBA

What They’re Wearing – October Wrap Up

Another 2-2 week in the books where the team beat up on Atlanta, won a close game against Charlotte, and got exposed on the road at Milwaukee and Toronto, who look like they two of the elite teams in the East.  The turnover issues have carried over from last season and continue to plague this team.  We’ve had a lot of great content recently at TPQ regarding the play on court, but win or lose, this column is about what’s on the feet.

Sixers Notes

Markelle Fultz

As noted here in the past, Fultz has an affinity for the Nike LeBron line.  He’s worn both the Nike LeBron 16, and more recently, the Nike LeBron Soldier XI.  Beginning last week against Charlotte, however, Markelle stepped on court in the original White/Navy/Gold color-way of the Nike LeBron Soldier 1 – a sneaker originally released in 2007.  The sneaker was re-released in May as part of Nike’s “Art of a Champion” pack.

Landry Shamet

Landry must have read last week’s plea for him to stop wearing the Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2k4.  He wore two different Kobe AD models this week.  Against Milwaukee and Charlotte he wore the Nike Zoom Kobe A.D. released in 2017.  He wore an all red version of the 2018 Zoom Kobe A.D.  Good on you, Landry.

Joel Embiid

Joel had worn the same version of his UA HOVR Havoc all season, but he showed up in Toronto with the shoe in Halloween colors.

Amir Johnson

I know you’re all clamoring for an update, so I would be remiss to not mention that Amir continues to wear the Nike Kyrie 4.

Notes from the opponents

 Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis Antetokonmpo is confirmed to be the next Nike athlete with his own signature sneaker – the Nike Greek Freak 1.  There have been some samples floating around the internet, but nothing has been confirmed.  My hunch is that he’ll wear them for the first time when they play at the Knicks on Christmas Day.  He wore the 2018 version of the Nike Zoom Kobe A.D. in Bucks colors against the Sixers on the 24th.

Khris Middleton showed up against the Sixers wearing the Nike Hyperdunk 2017 Low with what appears to be his custom logo on the tongue.  Nike’s design team looks like it worked overtime on that one.

Charlotte Hornets

Since the Hornets are owned by MJ, a lot of the Hornets players wear Jordan sneakers.  I remember when being a Team Jordan athlete meant that the player was on the elite level, but nowadays, players like Cody Zeller and Devonte’ Graham are being paid to wear Jordan sneakers.

Hornets Rookie Miles Bridges, who signed a contract with Nike, and not Jordan, wore the Nike LeBron 16 “1 Thru 5.”

Atlanta Hawks

I was at the Wells Fargo live to witness this one firsthand.  Something I noticed about the Hawks is that there were a few guys on the team who wear completely white sneakers with no visible maker’s marks.

On the other hand, due to neon yellow being one of their primary colors, some of the players wear some truly garish footwear.  Trey Young had bright yellow Adidas Harden B/E 2.

Hawks forward Taurean Prince was the sneaker star of the game, however.  He wore two different pairs of Reebok Questions during the game.  He wore the original red toe model for the first half and came out for the second half wearing the pearlized navy toe.

Toronto Raptors

Ben Simmons had a Russell Westbrook triple double in this game – 11 points, 10 assists, and 11 turnovers.  Not the team’s best showing, but they did play tough in the fourth quarter to close the gap before Toronto put it away.  Hopefully the team and coaching staff will us the game as a learning experience and make some necessary adjustments.

Danny Green signed a deal with re-emergent Puma in the off-season.  Against the 76ers he wore the Puma Clyde Court Disrupt X-Ray that was released this week for Halloween.

The upcoming week should have some interesting highlights.  We have a potential Boban and Embiid match-up.  A chance to avenge the overtime loss against Detroit.  And a look at Brooklyn’s Spencer Dinwiddie, who wears a sneaker brand that he created, which a portion of sales goes directly to charity.

Stay tuned.
