The 2019-2020 season is here. Media Day took place on September 30 which was our first real glimpse of the team as a whole. The optics certainly did not disappoint. Let’s get a rundown of the on-foot offerings.
________________________________________________
Ben Simmons
Simmons showed off in his ‘Phila Unite’ Air Jordan I customs by Garrixon Studio in collaboration with Ubiq. These were originally created in April 2019 as the team was gearing up for a playoff run. Ten pairs were created in total. They were given to Philadelphia (and Nike) athletes Carson Wentz and Rhys Hoskins and celebrity fans like Meek Mill and Kevin Hart, amongst others. Obviously, they will never be worn on court, but these are a killer pull for Simmons to wear on Media Day.
Joel Embiid
Joel was wearing the Under Armour HOVR Havoc 2 in a Sixers-esque colorway. Under Armour has come a long way since their original foray into basketball 10 or so years ago, but they still have some work to do if they want to catch Nike and Adidas. Expect Embiid to wear versions of this model throughout the season.
Tobias Harris
As you can see in the photo above, Tobais pulled out a head-turner. He’s wearing an unreleased player exclusive colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe 4 Protro. They look like a variation of the ‘Wizenard’ player exclusives that Kyle Kuzma and DeMar DeRozan wore last season. Harris’s version are wild and wonderful.
Al Horford
Never one to be flashy, Horford showed up in the Nike Air Max Audacity. A sneaker that was originally released in 2016 and has been a long time favorite of big men in the league.
Josh Richardson
After a few weeks of well-sourced speculation on my part, I was saddened to see Richardson wearing the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ on Monday. I had sleuthed that he would signing an endorsement contract with Reebok after some recent Instagram posts, but that does not appear imminent. It would have been a major coup for Reebok to get their sneakers back on the feet of an up and coming star in Philadelphia. All hope is not lost, however, as Richardson wore the adidas Harden Vol. 4 for the first day of training camp, so he is still a sneaker free agent. Hey Reebok – drop the bag!

Jonah Bolden
Trey Burke
Undefeated x Nike Zoom Kobe 4 Protro ‘Suns’
James Ennis III
Nike Zoom Kobe 4 Protro ‘Del Sol’
Furkan Korkmaz
He wore these in the FIBA World Cup as well. The version linked aren’t exact, but you get the idea.
Christ Koumadje
Isaiah Miles
Nike Kyrie 5 ‘Chinese New Year’
Shake Milton
Nike Zoom Kobe X Elite ‘Commander’
Outside of the customs and player exclusives, these might be the deepest cut of the day.
Raul Neto
The Zoom Freak 1 is Giannis Antetokounmpo’s first signature sneaker. I think Nike did a nice job with them.
Kyle O’Quinn
He was photographed earlier in the day carrying them into the building. I confirmed he was wearing them for the proceedings by studying Christian Crosby’s ‘Woah’ video like the Zapruder film.
Norvel Pelle
Mike Scott
Nike Zoom Kobe AD NXT FastFit “Vast Grey’
These are the next signature sneaker in the Kobe line. They feature FastFit technology that was debuted on last year’s Air Jordan XXXIII.
Marial Shayok
Zhaire Smith
Matisse Thybulle
Unfortunately, I could not find any images of Haywood Highsmith’s sneakers. Sorry, bro.
