What They’re Wearing – Goodbye Brooklyn, Hello Toronto

Credit: Sixers

After the scare in Game 1, the Sixers showed Brooklyn who was boss and promptly won the next four games.  Now, as expected, we move on the face the Toronto Raptors who easily dispatched Orlando after a similarly scary Game 1 loss.

There will be plenty of content here at The Phifth Quarter discussing the 76ers back alley fight with Brooklyn as well as the upcoming match-up with the Raptors, but as you know, that’s not what we’ll be going over here.  I’m here with a breakdown of sneakers past, present, and future in the 2019 Playoffs.

Game 1

The Sixers looked bad in basketball terms, but regarding the sneakers, they looked pretty good.

Jimmy Butler showed out in a lumberjack colorway of his custom Jordan Supreme Elevation. As you’ll see, Jimmy brought the heat throughout the series.

Tobias Harris played in the Nike Zoom Kobe 4 ‘Lakers Away’.  I love the gradient on these.  The Kobe 4 is far and away the best Kobe model.  Don’t at me.

Zhaire Smith arrived for his first playoff game in these.  Turtle Power!

Game 2

The only sneakers worth mentioning for Game 2 are from Jimmy Butler.  Jimmy wore a gray pair of the Jordan Supreme Elevation featuring assorted animal prints and hits of red and blue.

Game 3

Let’s start where we’ve started for the past two games – with Jimmy Butler.  Butler laced up a pair with blue and red animal prints for the first game of the series in Brooklyn.  These are great.

James Ennis III stepped on court in the Nike Zoom Kobe XI Elite ‘USA’.

Greg Monroe played (not great) in Embiid’s absence in the Air Jordan 33.

Like a nerd, Spencer Dinwiddie of the Nets played in a pair of K8IROS 8.1 that matched his socks.

Game 4

Jimmy Butler showed up in more animal prints for his short work day in Game 4.

As he’s worn for the whole series, Joel Embiid wore a blue and red pair of the Under Armour HOVR Havoc.  Here’s to hoping these have enough cushion for his iffy knee(s).

Game 5

In the close out game, Jimmy Butler played in a black and white pair of the Jordan Supreme Elevation with what looks to be a camo-ish graphic.  Consider me a fan of the metallic gold accents.

Ben Simmons played in what might be my favorite version of the Nike Hyperdunk X he’s worn all season.  I’m a sucker for light blue.

Toronto Raptors

The biggest sneaker story line for the Raptors comes from their marquee player, Kawhi Leonard.  Leonard signed a sneaker contract with New Balance earlier this season.  His signature model, the New Balance OMN1S were debuted during the All-Star Game.  He’s worn various colorways since then, though none of them are very eye catching.  The model itself fits with both New Balance’s design history and Kawhi’s subdued personality.

Toronto’s other All-Star, Kyle Lowry, is signed to a contract with Adidas.  He’s been wearing the Adidas Harden Vol. 3 primarily since March.

The other starters for the Raptors are likely future All-Star Pascal Siakam, former All-Star and Defensive Player of the year Marc Gasol, and role player extraordinaire Danny Green.  Siakam has played in the Nike Zoom KD 10 all season long.  Like a lot of other players, Gasol wear the Nike Hyperdunk X.  Green is a Puma cat.  He’s favored the Puma Uproar ‘Spectra’ of late (above).
