Around The NBA

What They’re Wearing – Early November Highs and Lows

The Sixers began the month with two good wins against the Clips and Pistons.  Embiid built a house in Andre Drummond’s head, and we all thought the early season issues were turning around.  Things were looking pretty good… and then they took a trip to Brooklyn.  The team turned out one of the worst performances in recent history.   But I’m not here to write about the on court play (we have plenty of great content on TPQ regarding that).  I’m here for the sneaker break down, which isn’t as boring as usual for the first time all season.

Sixers Notes

Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons may not be playing great right now, but for the first time this season, he actually wore something interesting on his feet.  Against the Pistons he wore a teal-ish blue and hyperpink version of his standard Nike Hyperdunk 2017.  They gave off serious Nike LeBron 8 “South Beach” vibes.

Against the Nets he broke out a white version with a similar look.  They look to have buildings on the side, but I couldn’t find any information regarding them.

Joel Embiid

Joel wore his first pair of truly 76ers colored Under Armour sneakers for all games this past week.  The model is a royal blue UA HOVR Havoc with red highlights.

Markelle Fultz

As I’ve stated in the past, Markelle prefers the Nike LeBron line of sneakers.  Last week he wore a model that we previously saw on him in training camp, but not on the court in a game.  He stepped on court in the Nike LeBron Soldier XII in Sixers colors.

Opponents Notes

Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers don’t have any stars left from the Lob City days, but they have one of the more interesting players in the league when it comes to footwear.  Montrezl Harrell has been one of the early season sneaker All-Stars.  He has worn everything from a Reebok Question designed by Cam’Ron to the And1 Tai Chi to Air Jordan 1s on court this season.  Against the Sixers he pulled out a pair of black suede Air Jordan XXI.

Detroit Pistons

I broke down Pistons sneaker highlights when we played them a few weeks ago.  In that article I mentioned Langston Galloway and his Q4 sneakers.  He went with a black and yellow version with a Jamaican feel this time around.  Slightly more subdued than the pink FairyOdd Parents joints from their last meeting.

Brooklyn Nets

The sneaker star of the season for Brooklyn has undoubtedly been Spencer Dinwiddie.  Dinwiddie started his own sneaker brand, K8IROS, which works hand in hand with his Project D.R.E.A.M. charity.  A portion of the sales (25.08%) go to charity and after each game, his sneakers are auctioned with all of the proceeds going to charity.  He wears custom sneakers every game which either have a connection to the team he’s playing against or something with significance to the date.  When playing the 76ers last weekend, he wore a pair that was dedicated to Allen Iverson.  The current auction price is $390, if anyone is interested.

On another note from the Nets game, I think we might have our reason for Ben Simmons’ trash game.  Please don’t go back, Ben.

The Sixers could use a nice signature road win against Indiana on Wednesday night.  The team then has an odd time-zone crossing home/road back-to-back on Friday and Saturday against Charlotte and Memphis.  Let’s hope they can shake off the terrible performance from Sunday against the Nets.

As always, I’ll be back to breakdown the footwear win or lose.

Stay tuned.
