Sixers Sneakers – New Reebok Questions Releasing

Around 10:00 Saturday night, Josh Richardson posted to his Instagram story that a new Reebok Question Mid would be dropping soon.  He “whatever the IG story equivalent of quote-Tweeted” from user @youlooklike who is a guy named Matt who apparently works for Reebok.

This obviously piqued my interest (and I have two young kids, so I wasn’t doing anything on a Saturday night) so I did a Charlie Kelly-level deep dive to see what I could find out.

Back in September Allen Iverson had posted some pictures on Instagram from a trip to Reebok HQ, so I went back and took a gander.  I was unsure at the time wether the sneakers in question (pun intended) were prototypes or actual release pieces, so I sat on them until I could get some more information.

I was able to confirm that these are all scheduled for release at specific times throughout the season (with stories attached to each), but I couldn’t determine the order of release.

Fast forward to Sunday.  Our new friend Matt/@youlooklike shared a picture on his Instagram story of photographer Vince Sirico taking a photo of the Reebok Question on the street in Philadelphia, but the sneaker itself covered by a sneaker emoji.  Obviously, I enlarged the photo to see if I could get any details.  Looking closely, you can see that the upper is either dark navy or black and there is gray on the sole.  If you go back to the photo of Iverson in front of the wall of sneakers, this matches up with the shoe in the second row on the far right.

This next part is purely speculation on my part, but the colorway leads me to believe these are an homage to Iverson’s Georgetown days.  The Sixers play the Wizards in Washington on December 5, so it would make sense that they are doing promo work now to gear up for a release around Black Friday and have Richardson wear them on court for the first time in Washington.  Time will tell.

Additional Information

The yellow-toed Questions were player exclusives that were created for Kobe Bryant in 2003 when he was between his adidas and Nike contracts.  Here’s the quick backstory.  Kobe hated his last two adidas signature sneakers, so he paid $8 million to be let out of his deal in 2002.  As a penalty, he couldn’t sign a new deal until after the following season, thus he was a sneaker free agent.  The Sixers and Lakers play a marquee Saturday game in late January on ABC.  I would assume these make their debut that night.

There will be special Christmas Day Questions.  They are not shown on the wall.  I have some knowledge of them, but I haven’t confirmed enough to share yet.  Let’s just say that if my intel is correct, they will match this jersey really well.

In regard to the Reebok Answer 5’s shown, I don’t have any clear information whether those are releasing.  Based on this post, two of the models are for Bethel High School where he played high school basketball.
