Sixers Sign Dwight Howard in Team’s First Free Agency Move

The Sixers will sign free agent center Dwight Howard to a one-year deal, per Shams Charania.

Bobby Marks is reporting that the deal will be the veteran minimum exception of $2.6 million.

Yes, this is THE Dwight Howard. The eight-time all star, three-time defensive player of the year and 2020 NBA champion with the Lakers.

This comes after it was earlier reported that Howard would resign with the Lakers for over $3 million. He even tweeted earlier this evening announcing his return to LA, which has since been deleted. Now, it appears he will come to Philly for less money.

The man nicknamed Superman will be turning 35 in December, but he was still able to contribute last season. In 69 games, Howard averaged 7.5 PPG and 7.3 RPG in just 18.9 minutes per game. He also shot a career-high 72.9% FG%.

Overall, the Sixers will get a great backup center for Embiid, and the team should still have money to sign more depth.

Say it with me: Dwight Howard is a 76er.
