Sixers Postgame: Sixers 119 – Suns 114

The Sixers started the game tonight flat as they typically do.  The Sixers had a rough time with turnovers in the first quarter turning the ball over a staggering 8 times to start the game!  To add to the Sixers slow start, the Suns came out of the gate burning hot. Given the poor start, the Sixers happen to find themselves down only ten.

Second half opened with a noticeable change in the Sixers game plan: Brett having the offense run through Joel.  Sixers are still not playing fantastic ball but are cleaning things up.  Joel started to heat up and wouldn’t look back after only having 4 points to start the game. At times Joel was overly confident in fact, missing a wide open dunk, opting to go with a windmill dunk that fell just a little short. Sixers cutting the Suns lead to just 5.

The third quarter was the Joel Embiid show.  He was unstoppable in the third.  Sixers played with a lot more confidence on both the offensive and defensive end.  Embiid’s hot start to the half spreading to the rest of the team. Sixers got a lot of help from their bench.  Muscala playing strong grabbing a couple offensive boards and putting it back up.  Sixers ended the third quarter up six points, 92-86.

The forth quarter the Suns faced foul problems.  Particularly, Devin Booker getting his 5th foul quick into the fourth quarter. TJ Warren saw himself with his 5th foul and Ayton with 4. Redick for the Sixers would have to leave the game after taking an elbow to the nose from Embiid. Sixers and Suns started the quarter exchange shots. The leads stayed at 6 with roughly 5:00 minutes left in the quarter. Philly started to expose the Suns foul problems taking the ball to TJ Warren often. Suns still seemed to still hang around though. Sixers were able to hold the Suns off at the end of the game to remain undefeated at home.

The Sixers tonight were able to withstand a slow and awful start. They turned the ball over a team total of 19 times, 8 of which came in the first quarter. It was a different game then most for the Sixers having to fight back from an early deficit. It was really a tale of two halves though for Philly. Turning things on in the second have and have a strong third quarter. The game was much closer then most Sixers fans would have wished but a win is a win.

The Sixers play again Wednesday night at home against New Orleans. Make sure you stay tuned into The Phifth Quarter on twitter for all thing Sixers.
