Rest In Peace: Chadwick Boseman

Kings Never Die

Chadwick Boseman was a true powerhouse in Hollywood representing so many famous and iconic characters. His range reached far and wide with roles including T’Challa, Stormin’ Norman, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson. For Bosemen’s last movie, the actor had the chance to work with Spike Lee. Da 5 Bloods is currently streaming on Netflix and it received an 82 Metascore on IMDB. Bosemen, the 43 year old actor, was fighting a 4 year battle with colon cancer while filming some of his incredible movies.

Jackie Robinson

Most people think of Black Panther when they think of the successful actor. However, the role that comes to my mind is Jackie Robinson. 42 came out around the time when I was just seriously getting into movies. I fell in love with him as an actor right away when I saw 42. It’s only fitting that Boseman happened to pass away on Jackie Robinsons day, especially in a time when African-Americans are on the street protesting daily for racial equality. The movie provided an excellent example of how since racism is taught… It can surely be untaught.

Wakanda Forever

Boseman became an icon for children and adults everywhere for his Marvel character Black Panther. His superhero jumped on screen for the first time in 2016 and instantly became a favorite among the Marvel comic book characters. When the movie Black Panther was released in 2018, it became a film that represented a generation of comic book and superhero lovers. Black Panther ended up grossing $1.3 billion worldwide and became the highest grossing film by an African-American director.

Chadwick Boseman appearing from the portal in Endgame easily became the most emotional and satisfying scene in comic book history. The crowd at theaters erupting into applause at the appearance of Black Panther will go down in history. I’ll always remember a certain meme of Chadwick being tired of throwing up the iconic Black Panther X. People joked that the actor had to have been sick and tired of displaying that symbol for pictures. We now know the truth. We didn’t know that Chadwick was going through an incredible battle with cancer. That’s what makes him a real superhero. It’s more than just his characters giving hope to black children and adults all over the world. It’s the fact that Boseman was continuing to make people happy while going through tremendous struggles in his own life. That’s what a real life superhero looks like.
