Postgame: Sixers 123 Wizards 98

The story of the first half of this game was rebounds. Sixers owned the Wizards on the glass tonight 58 to the Wizards 42. Embiid ended the first quarter with 7 rebounds. Sixers starting the game not shoot particularly well but it came down to hustle points and the Sixers out hustled the Wizards out of the gate. Sixers ended the first quarter with a 31-19 lead.

Second half started slow for the Sixers. The lead was cut down to six at one point and the Wizards were surging. Sixers were playing some very slopping basketball trying to do too much which lead to some turnovers and bad shots. Brett called a timeout and settled the team down. Sixers came out of the timeout with composure and went on a run themselves. The second half went from the Sixers only up 6 to the Sixers up 68-46.

The third quarter the Sixers opened up the lead early. Starters got a lot of rest and the bench got a good look at some playing time. One thing that I noticed is that Korkmaz is playing some decent ball since the trade, He looks like a guy who is trying to get NBA teams looking for next season. The bench looked okay. The kept a modest lead in the third and starters had the rest of the quarter off.

The 4th quarter was the Sixers bench show. Starters did not get back in the game. The bench held the lead. Washington went on a little run with around 4:30 minutes left in the quarter but it was it was way to late to salvage the game. Blow outs are not fun to watch but it was nice to again see the Sixers dominate a team they should easily beat. The defense looked elite tonight. Should only get better as Butler continues to gel.

Sixer play again Sunday at home against Memphis. Stay tuned in to The Phifth Quarter on twitter for all Sixers news and updates @ThePhifthQ.
