Eagles

No Super Bowl Hangover in Philadelphia

It’s actually unreal.  I’m sitting on my couch right now, in my house watching NBC Philly’s coverage of Eagles Postgame.  I have had a few beers over the course of the night, but I just can’t help but giggle to myself.  The Eagles are awesome.  They are such a good team.  Just like the NFC divisional round playoff game against the Falcons last December, almost every TV analyst had the Atlanta Falcons beating the Philadelphia Eagles.  I watched ESPN all day and everyone thought the Eagles were going to have a little Super Bowl hangover game.  And honestly, I agreed.  I didn’t think they were going to win.

I just took a break from writing this to watch Coach Doug Pederson’s post game press conference.  Honest to god, I just laughed the entire time.  Doug P was so happy.  I was so happy.  Compared to his press conference meltdowns earlier this preseason when he lashed out at the media, openly criticized Nick Foles along with the rest of the offense after a preseason game, and handled the Carson Wentz situation like a coach that didn’t just win the Super Bowl, this guy was cool as a cucumber.  For as stressed out and borderline paranoid Coach P was in preseason, he got his swagger back tonight and reassured everyone he is one of the best coaches in the league.

Watching this game, a switch in my brain flicked reminding me of what it was like watching teams like the Seahawks, Broncos, and the Patriots of years past.  These teams win the Super Bowl and then just keep competing year after year.  They always come out on top, they finish games no matter what the circumstance is.  They are good football teams.  They are dynasties.  The Philadelphia Eagles will be a dynasty for years to come.  They keep defying the odds.  It doesn’t feel real.  I’ve been watching the Eagles my whole life and they could never get it done. The time is now.  The Eagles win football games.

The Birds have faults, but don’t we all?  Nick Foles struggles to move the football down the field. Their highly touted tight ends Ertz and 2nd round pick Dallas Goedert couldn’t catch the ball and they would catch a penalty every few plays.  But the guys win games.  Everyone contributes.  Future Hall of Famer Darren Sproles who is 34 and coming off a torn ACL, rising star Nelson Agholor, veteran leader Chris Long, and second year punter Cameron Johnston from The Ohio State, are some of the unlikely names that stood out to me tonight.

The Eagles are here to stay.  The fact that they ran another trick play called “Philly Philly”, which was the exact play the Patriots ran against them in the Super Bowl, just shows you how legit these guys are. They don’t give a f*ck.  Doug Pederson is a mastermind.  Imagine this team when Alshon and Wentz are back healthy.  Oh yeah, add Nigel Bradham too.  Sunglasses and Advil… No Super Bowl hangover in Philadelphia.
