Matisse Thybulle: Welcome to the Bubble

The Bubble: Day 1

This is just reason number one million why we all love Matisse Thybulle. His content throughout quarantine has been top-notch, starting with his TikTok game and upgrading to a documentary. If there’s anyone who could get me to watch TikToks, it would be Matisse Thybulle. The rookie has upgraded his camera and is now editing his videos for our entertainment. “Welcome to the Bubble” gives us an inside look at the day in the life of an NBA player within the Orlando resorts. Let’s take a look at the best moments from the film by Matisse Scorsese.

Taking Off

Despite doing a horrible job with the biscuits, Matisse is still on Chick-fil-A duty, fulfilling his rookie responsibilities. He first grabs the team meal then heads on over to the buses. Matisse adds top-notch narration by claiming that he refuses to ride the same bus as Tobias. On the plane, we get to see the players and the masks they decided to rep. We also get to see how personable of a guy Tobias Harris is. Harris, who is still rocking the quarantine look, can get along with everyone and has a very good relationship with Matisse. A side note. Ben Simmons, with his mask, looks like a GTA online character you would create.

The Procedure

It was very interesting to see the exercises the players had to go through to stay safe at all times. There was a testing station right when the team walked in and they were promised that the leading health experts in the world would create a safe environment. There is a funny moment when the employee greets Joel and all he says is “Can I go to my room now.” Embiid  jokingly tries to shake the guy’s hand to test his professionalism.

The Room

When Matisse is alone, his hilarious antics are on full display. He reminds me of a child on vacation or a high school grad going to a dorm for the first time. He immediately goes for the snacks and sorts them into what he likes and dislikes. Next, he tries on the custom-made NBA mask and brags that they’re reversible. After a phone call with Tobias and a struggle to get a tablet to work, we finally get to see the infamous meal.

The rookie seems to go along with anything and not get bothered. The chicken and noodles don’t look too bad, in my opinion, but I do understand that for an NBA player it is probably a little underwhelming. Like a wide-eyed child seeing the world for the first time, Matisse is soaking it all up and taking everything in stride. All he needs is his camera, his candle, and his… Utensils.

Opinion

I loved this video and I can’t wait to see more from Matisse. I hope that more players start to narrate their experience in the bubble. We’ve already seen Tobi and Bobi reunite, Ben Simmons catching a fish, and J.J. Redick shotgunning a beer. It is a privilege to get Matisse’s insider perspective of such a historic occasion. I hope we get part 2 really soon.
