Matisse Thybulle is the greatest defender in the history of basketball

The NBA may need to issue a second apology to China after Matisse Thybulle’s performance against the Guanzhong Long-Lions. In his debut in a Sixers uniform, Thybulle was a menace and looked nothing like a rookie.

Of course, you should have a salt shaker handy because you’re going to need a grain or two when discussing Thybulle’s performance against sub-NBA competition, but it’s still encouraging nonetheless.

It was surprising to see how early and often Thybulle subbed into the game, especially while his fellow young, running mate, Zhaire Smith rode the pine. But as the first half progressed, the rookie from Washington just kept making plays.

It was as if Thybulle had some type of super natural ability to constantly get a hand on the ball. He was like Magneto, if Magneto controlled basketballs instead of metal. Anytime an initiator came Thybulle’s way, they regretted it. Mostly because they’d end up losing the ball.

Thybulle was aggressive through contact. He used his size and length well to clog passing lanes and contest shots. He was tenacious and chased down everything, leading to a block from behind or two. It may be too soon to crown Ben Simmons three point champion, but it’s safe to say Thybulle has defensive player of the year in the bag.

After trading Robert Covington, the Sixers were in desperate need of a perimeter play maker on defense. Thybulle seems like he’s immediately ready to fill those shoes.

While Brett Brown has already mentioned not to put much stock in the team early season rotations, but it’s safe to assume Thybulle is going to be a key player in the Sixers’ wing rotation. Here’s hoping he stays healthy. *knocks on wood*
