Brandon Brooks to Miss 2020 season with Torn Achilles

  1. Eagles star guard Brandon Brooks has torn his felt Achilles tendon and will miss the 2020 season. Brooks tweeted a statement Monday night announcing the disappointing news, but claims he’ll be back “better than ever.”

This is the second time in less than two years the three-time pro bowler has this injury. He tore his right Achilles in the divisional-round playoff loss to New Orleans in January 2019, but was able to return in less than eight months for the start of the next regular season. Brooks also dislocated his shoulder in the final regular season game this past year against New York, which caused him to miss the playoff game vs. Seattle.

If games are played in 2020, this would be the first time Brooks has missed a regular season game since 2016.

Brooks has been one of the best guards in all of football the last three seasons and is a major part of the Eagles offensive line. He will turn 31 in August and signed a four-year, $56.35 million extension back in November.

The Eagles take pride in their offensive line for being one of their biggest strengths, so it will be interesting to see how they move forward in replacing such an important player. The next two interior offensive lineman on the depth chart should be Nate Herbig and Matt Pryor, so they could battle it out in training camp and preseason. Also, don’t rule out this causing the Eagles to bring back Jason Peters. Yes, he’s a left tackle, but at 38 years old and still a free agent, maybe he and the team would welcome a return to add to the battle and try a different position.
