Sixers may not replace Marc Eversley(???)

Elton Brand conducted a conference call with members of the media Tuesday afternoon; his first media appearance since the league’s suspension. While the call only last 30 minutes, there was a lot to take away.

Brand made mention of the league’s potential return, the possibility the draft will be entirely online, Ben Simmons’ rehab, and, if the season doesn’t resume, how he’ll evaluate the coaching staff and roster this offseason. Most notably, Brand mentioned the Sixers’ plans for replacing senior vice president of player personnel, Marc Eversley; new GM of the Chicago Bulls. The plan is notable because the Sixers might not have any plan to replace Eversley.

Despite the loss of a high ranking front office member, the Sixers feel confident in who they still have. Brand made it clear that the team is happy with Alex Rucker, Ned Cohen, Sergi Oliva, and Vince Rozman; all of whom were originally hired or promoted by Brian Colangelo. He added that if there is talent out there, the team will look into it, but there is currently no timetable.

To put it simply, this sucks. For the team to feel this confident about their talent evaluators after the roster underperformed so badly this season is astonishing. Since Colangelo’s firing, this team has squandered all of their most prized assets and all they have to show for it is an expensive, poorly put together roster that doesn’t suit their two best players.

Of course, this could all be a bluff. The Sixers may have something up their sleeve and they want to keep it secret. That’s wishful thinking though. In all likelihood, the Sixers haven’t learned anything from this season and they’re still overconfident in the people Colangelo left charge. This team’s refusal to add new voices to the front office has been dumbfounding and is likely to only continue.

Fingers crossed the Knicks’ interest in Elton Brand is for real because that may be the only chance for real change in the front office this offseason.

Help us Leon Rose, you’re our only hope.
